---+ NodeB A NodeB is 3GPP terminology for a basestation. In third generation 3GPP equipment the NodeB performs only the physical layer layer (Layer 1) processing (UMTS). For HSPA equipment (Release 5-7) the NodeB also contains part of the MAC layer, corresponding to the high-speed transport channels (HS-DSCH). An OpenAirInterface NodeB resembles, in spirit, more closely the future eNodeB or WiMax basestation which comprises all the layer 2 protocol stack and part of the Layer 3 protocol stack.
The terms NodeB and ClusterHead are used interchangeably (i.e. they represent the same thing). The term ClusterHead refers specifically to the Mesh topology of OpenAirInterface.
